How to read a forex rate
- EUR/USD 1.0850 means 1 euro costs 1.0850 US dollars.
- A pip is the 4th decimal on most pairs (0.0001) and the 2nd on yen pairs (0.01).
- The cross-rates matrix shows every combination of the major currencies: read the row currency against the column currency.
Why your broker's price is slightly different
Forex has no single central exchange. Every broker builds its prices from its own liquidity providers and adds its spread or commission. Differences of a fraction of a pip are normal. Always place orders from your broker's platform, not from a website quote.
