Events that move forex the most
- Interest rate decisions: from central banks such as the Fed, ECB, Bank of England and Bank of Japan, plus the press conference afterwards.
- Inflation (CPI): drives expectations for future interest rates.
- US jobs report (NFP): usually the first Friday of the month at 8:30 AM New York time.
- GDP, PMI and retail sales: show how strong an economy is.
How beginners should use it
- Check it before your session: note every high-impact event for the currencies you trade.
- Avoid fresh entries right before a release: spreads widen and price can jump through your stop.
- Size down or stay flat: if you hold a trade into big news, make sure the risk is small enough to accept a gap.
- Wait for the dust to settle: the first move after a release is often reversed.
