Learn Trading Costs Commission

Commission Accounts

Commission accounts show very tight spreads, but charge a separate fee per trade. They’re common on RAW/ECN-style accounts—and the only fair comparison is all-in cost: average spread + commission (converted to pips).

Commission on forex accounts

Commission accounts show tight spreads but add a separate fee. Compare using all-in cost, not headlines.

  • All-in: average spread + commission
  • Charged: per lot (often round-turn)
  • Best for: active trading in liquid hours

Don’t compare “0.0 spreads”—compare the all-in cost and execution quality.

Forex commission explained

  • Commission is usually charged per lot (per side or round turn).
  • A raw-spread account may show a very small spread, but commission is added separately.

Commission in pips (quick conversion)

  • Step 1: find the round-turn commission for 1.00 lot (entry + exit).
  • Step 2: find your pip value for that pair and lot size.
  • Step 3: commission in pips = round-turn commission ÷ pip value.
  • Step 4: all-in cost = average spread + commission-in-pips.

Mini example: EUR/USD, 1.00 lot, pip value $10. Round-turn commission $6 → $6 ÷ $10 = 0.6 pips. If average spread is 0.2 pips → all-in ≈ 0.8 pips.

How to compare commission accounts

  • Use your reality: compare the pair(s) you actually trade, during the hours you trade.
  • Use averages: ignore minimum spreads—use typical/average spread data when possible.
  • Make it all-in: convert commission to pips and add it to the spread.
  • Check the fine print: per-side vs round-turn, minimum commission, rounding, and volume tiers.
  • Don’t ignore fills: costs can explode through slippage and order rejection.

Beginner tip

If you’re new, start with the account type you understand best. Once you can place trades consistently, compare accounts using all-in cost (average spread + commission-in-pips) and basic execution quality.
